Residence permit in the Czech Republic 2019

residence permit in Czech Republic

The Czech Republic entered the Schengen zone in 2007. The general visa regime doesn’t differ from the established before one (A, B, C, D categories). But obtaining a residence permit has its own characteristics different from what the “older” EU members have. In most cases, there is no need to obtain a national visa or even to enter the territory of the country using other documents to obtain a residence permit. It’s enough to prepare the necessary documents for diplomatic representations (embassies and consulates of the country). The only exceptions are study and research activities. Then, getting a D visa is required.

To get a residence permit in the Czech Republic without entering the state, you need to:

Send an email to the visa department of the embassy or consulate in the country of residence for registration.

The letter should contain:

  • name and surname (in Latin, as indicated in the passport);
  • date of birth;
  • passport number;
  • type of residence (long-term);
  • contacts (phone, e-mail);
  • a separate application with scanned copies of data pages and a photo of the passport, a document confirming the purpose of the trip.

The date of application receipt will be scheduled at the end of the registration procedure. Submission of the application is made only in person with a survey in Czech. Participation of the translator is allowed.

Reasons for obtaining a residence permit in the Czech Republic and their features:

First, you need to send an electronic application to the selected university and pay for it (500-1000 CZK) The second stage after receiving confirmation from the university is the preparation of documents for admission (recruitment is different for different universities). Then, personal submission of the application with the documents to the embassy. The term of consideration is 60 or 120 days, depending on the university (public/private).

For employment, the contract with the employer, in case the vacancy is not taken by a Czech or other EU country citizen for a certain time, is mandatory. Documents submitted with the application:

In the case of a positive response, it is necessary to appear at the embassy to obtain a D visa. Then, after arriving in the Czech Republic within three days, there is a registration of biometrics and a work card in the police. The price is 2500 CZK. Registration at the residency records office.

This card is a proof of residence permit. Certain conditions allow you to get a Blue Card EU.

For a business, a personal visit for a period of at least one year with a visa of D category is required. It takes 1–3 weeks to establish an enterprise. The minimum share capital is 1 krone.

Family reunification is possible under various programs (repatriation, departure to a spouse - a Czech citizen, etc.). Conditions for granting a residence permit and a list of additional documents are determined by the programs.

Attention! The application and all documents provided for the above reasons are provided to the embassy personally, translated into the Czech language in advance, certified by the notary of the embassy.
